With the loss of the internet, many people have suffered. The suffering was big or small, barely noticeable or downright devastating. Major online corporations like Google and Amazon have suffered severely, especially Google. However, smaller businesses are also affected, though not as much as larger corporations. One such business in Malley's Chocolates, a local Cleveland business that makes chocolates. It has 23 local stores with the headquarters in Mentor, Ohio. The business usually uses the internet to advertise via its website as well as order its products, but that is about all. In terms of the internet, it was an outsider, but in this case, that was very good. We have interviewed one of the employees:
"How has the lack of internet affected this business?" "Besides the fact that we can't use our website our order products, we are faring just fine. With the lack of internet, many families are spending more time together, and they sometimes buy each other sweets." "How are you managing with the loss of the internet?" "The business is doing fine. We order all of our products over the phone, but besides that, nothing has really changed." "Has the loss of internet affected the employees?" "No. In fact, we have had to hire more because of all of our products coming in. Without our website, people either buy our catalogs or come to the shops themselves, so this has generated a large boom in our profit." "Do you wish for the internet to return?" "I think we all do, but we'll enjoy it while it lasts." You heard it here. Even though some people and companies are upset over the loss of the internet, a very few some are enjoying and even gaining profit from it. Even in this dark time people still find the light within. Thanks.

Ever since the internet went down, the online commerce company Amazon has had little to no business. We have asked a reporter to go and interview one of the company's employees. Here is the conversation: "How has the loss of internet affected your business?" "Well, we rely on the internet to get orders. Usually, we have our website up and running, and consumers can come and go as they please, searching through our online catalogs. Without the internet, no one can look through our products and buy them. Our business has been severely reduced, as well as our income." "How else has the lack of internet affected this company?" "Well, at least half of our workers have been laid off, and the remaining workers have had their pay cut down. We also have a ton of products that are just sitting in the warehouses, collecting dust." "Are you incorporating any measures to try and revive the business?" "Yes. We have advertised in the newspaper that we are now ordering by phone calls. Should anyone want to order, they can call the company and we will send them it via the mail." "If the internet doesn't return, is this how you will continue to manage the business?" "Yes. It's not as fast as the internet, but it will have to do. I am worried, though. If people don't like this new way of ordering, then it is possible we won't be able to keep open much longer. I hope for the best." With regards to several other major online commerce companies, they are facing the same threat. Search engines such as Google and Yahoo are faring even worse as they can't be used whatsoever. They are losing money even faster than Amazon or Ebay. Many hope the internet will return or else several corporations will disappear and possibly not return.
Ever since the internet went down about a week ago, my life has changed. My family has had to call people instead of text them. I have had to look everything up for school using books instead of the internet. Most traffic lights and signs that were controlled via internet are now down and their jobs are done by police. No one can go on social media or go on any news websites, limiting news access to the television strictly. I couldn't play any online games with friends or get emails from them or school. All of my school work had to be done by hand, and we had to go back to using textbooks instead of any online ones. School became extremely boring, and life at home did too. However, my family did do more activities in the outdoors and more importantly, we did them together. I also got to see a lot more of my friends, as they didn't have online videos or games to distract them. In some ways, life was crippled because of the loss of the internet, but in some ways, it became better.
Since yesterday, the internet has been down and unable to work. However, we had our data centers in various cities such as Kansas, Boston, and Chicago. As of this morning, workers and technicians have discovered that someone or a group of people have destroyed at least 10 data centers in these cities and states: New York, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Portland, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Miami. Speculation has risen a great deal as all of these centers in the U.S. This action has strengthened the theory that President Obama had something to do with the internet downfall. We have almost no idea who the people are as they wore black hoodies and sweatpants and wore Guy Fawkes masks. This also supports the group Anonymous, but we can't know for sure. Without the data centers, should the internet get back online, we would have to go without MPLS, or multiprotocol label switch, the device that uses many data centers to get information to where you want faster. Without these data centers, should the internet return, it will be extremely hard to get large files and information to where you want it to go. No matter what the circumstance, riots are happening in more cities, and the government is still searching for the culprits, which President Obama believes to be Korean spies whose goal was to sabotage the U.S. computer system. Without these data centers, it will be almost impossible to contact others at a long distance, leaving the U.S. vulnerable to an attack.
It has been one day since the loss of the internet. Those who had internet access around the world are beginning to ask questions and governments are beginning to point fingers. Here is a newspaper article describing the situation:
"Yesterday, the world woke up to a huge surprise: the internet was not working. Many believed it to be a glitch and thought that it would return later that day. However, the internet remained inactive and now the world is getting tense. Riots are breaking out in several cities in the United States. The American government has pointed to the Chinese and Korean government to be behind the catastrophe. Great Britain and France are with the US on this claim while Russia, China, Korea, and several Middle Eastern countries are against this accusation. Through all this chaos, most countries in Africa are relatively unaffected and have paid no heed to this matter. Several conspirators in the US believe it to be the president Barack Obama and his advisers to be behind the internet attack. He addressed the matter today at a speech: "My fellow Americans: I can assure you that in no way was I or any of the American government involved in the failure of the internet. We believe that the Korean government was behind this in some way. We are working as hard as possible to revive the internet. Until then, please hold tight." Very few saw the speech because the cameras could not project the picture to your televisions wirelessly. People continue to speculate as to why the internet has failed. Many believe it to be the hackers in Korea or a simple failure in the internet. The more radical people believe this to be the work of aliens, Obama, ISIS, and my personal favorite, Santa Klaus, the German Santa Claus. Whatever the reason, we have begun to revert back to old technology, such as wired cameras, maps, and telephones with cords. We all hope the internet to be back soon, or else the human race as we know it might return to life in the 50's and 60's. Good luck to all. We need it." I'm bored as heck. The internet is down and there is nothing to do. I call my friend and he tells me that the internet is down across the US. Everywhere from California to Maine, the internet is down. I turn on the news to see that in Pennsylvania, there are riots going on. The people believe that the government is behind the internet breakdown. However, I can't ponder much as I have to go to my grandparents' house to make sure she is alright. As my family and I head to their house, I notice that most of the traffic lights are always red and that many police men have taken over their duty. We turn on the radio and find that nearby countries, like Canada and Mexico, have lost internet too. The government believe that some foreign country, like China, Korea, or ISIS may have had something to do with this. My opinion? Some stupid tech guy did something like spill his coffee on the national internet provider station and just won't own up to it. America and their stupid ways: it's never their fault, and we always have to blame some other poor country.
As I'm sitting at lunch, eating, our principle, Mr. Bradesca, reports that all teachers should plan accordingly as there is no internet. He says thank you, and then gets off the PA. Many of us are wondering what the heck happened. School ended slightly early(as Mr. Hamlin couldn't get our attention and just gave up) and I went home to see if anything had changed. My parents inform me that nothing as changed, although out TV was working again. Turns out the antenna had been knocked over. The news reports that nothing has changed and that many ISP companies are doing their best to fix the situation. However, there will not be any internet in the near future. Just great. No more Youtube or online gaming.
2 hours later.......
I arrive at school and get to my classroom. I turn on my computer on and try to access my email only to find that the internet, for whatever reason, in broken and won't connect. I find that this is happening to everyone in this school as well as to everyone in other schools. I pull out my phone to see that my friend has texted me: (-=my friend; .=me) -Did u here? the whole internet is down! .I heard. it sucks. -I heard that it has something to do with hackers that did something to the Verizon building nearby that gives the internet. .wow. who knew someone could do that, right? -yeah. gtg, good luck. .You too. After our little text spiel, I turn back to my teacher, who originally was going to let us play Kahoot, but now was telling us to get out our notebooks for a few problems. Without the internet, school is much harder. As usual, I woke up to my watch beeping at 6 am. I got out of bed and took my usual shower, got dressed, and ate breakfast. Usually I would watch a bit of the news while waiting for my ride, but I couldn't, seeing as there is no internet. I found that out by going downstairs to get the laundry and saw my router was off. Without it, I couldn't see what the weather would be like. Usually, my mom would text me anything I may have forgotten, but she couldn't, as there is no WiFi. I waited for my ride, and when it came, I went to summer school.
